Sandlot Fun Days

We are excited to present our Sandlot Fun Days for ages 8-12!! Join us in July for a player-led, unstructured opportunity for players to come together for a fun, relaxed game of baseball, where kids make the rules, make the lineups, and make the calls.

What:
Sandlot-style baseball games

Who: Open to anyone ages 8-12 (birth dates range: 9/1/12-9/01/08). If you know a kid who wants to try baseball in an informal environment, please spread the word!

We encourage friends and family to attend and cheer on the players! The Snack Shack will be open, offering your favorite ballpark treats.

Where: Bar-S Playfield

When: July 9, 16, 23, 30

All game times should start by 6:00. Plan to arrive between 5:30-5:45.

You don't need to attend every date to play; just come when you can! New teams formed every week!

Additional post-sandlot game fun (8pm approx start time):
   -  July 9: Home run derby competition
   -  July 16: Water balloons
   -  July 23: Running the bases competition
   -  July 30: Water balloons

Why: So kids (and families) can enjoy more baseball on beautiful summer evenings.

How much: No cost. That's right—it's absolutely free.

How to register: To sign up players, see the SignUpGenius.

Want to volunteer: While we will not use coaches, we will need adult supervisors at all games. West Seattle Little League is a 100% volunteer run organization. We can only offer additional opportunities for players to get more time on the field if our baseball community steps in to volunteer. If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the SignUpGenius volunteer sign-up.

Requirements

While unstructured, there are some very basic requirements, which provide a safe and fun environment for the players:

  • Players must meet age requirements:
  • Players will determine selection of teams, as well as how many defensive players are used; continuous batting order is recommended.
  • Each dugout must have an approved adult volunteer.
  • If an umpire is used, they must follow guidelines outlined in the current Little League Regulations, Official Rules, and Operating Policies or in the Rulebook App.
  • Players must adhere to all player safety guidelines, such as:
    • All batters must wear protective helmets, while batting and while on base.
    • Catchers must wear approved catcher’s equipment.
    • Pitch counts must be followed (should be kept by approved adult volunteer).
    • Proper pitching distances must be followed.
    • Bases that disengage their anchor must be used.

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE PARENTS & CAREGIVERS?

Parents, caregivers, and families are vital to the Little League experience. For the Little League Sandlot Fun Days experience, though, that involvement stops at the parking lot. As hard as it is, that means the only thing that should be coming from the bleachers are some words of encouragement for everyone on the field, no coaching, yelling, umpiring, or trying to influence what’s happening on the field. Each Little League Sandlot Fun Day event must have one approved local Little League volunteer present at the game site to oversee the activities. Those adults’ role is to help make sure the players are safe.

Volunteers must be approved, with a completed volunteer application and background check. If you would like to volunteer, please see the SignUpGenius.
