The Home Team will be responsible for prepping and maintaining the fields before and after games. It is beneficial to appoint 1-2 parents from the team to lead this position, as well as solicit additional help when needed.  

Duties may include:

  - Manage and perform pre-game and post-game field maintenance duties (home team)
  - Includes chalking, dragging the field before and after game, covering the mound and home plate
  - Attend mandatory pre-season field maintenance training
  - Relay and act as trainer to parents that sign up to help out
  - Assist at field prep days

Your Team Manager and Team Coaches will assist you in finding the tools and resources available at each field. Home teams should plan to arrive to the field with plenty of time to prep the field for safe play.

Pre-Game prep

• Use sponges to soak up any standing water on the home plate and pitcher's mound tarps
• Roll up and remove tarps using wheelbarrows. Do not drag the tarps
• Hand drag infield skins as needed, do not push material up to the grass line.
• From the equipment shed bring out: Bases, Batters Box Template, String, 2 Landscape Pins, Mallet, Chalking Machine
• Use batters box template to mark the right and left hand batters box
• Run a string line from outfield grass, down the outside edge of 1st/3rd base, and over the diagonal edge of home plate to mark the foul line
• Chalk to the inside of the string line. The foul line should run directly under the base, not next to it.
• Remove 1st and 3rd base from their plates.
• Use a light dusting (do not go back and forth over the line 1x is enough)
• The foul line does not meet the outside corner of the batter's box. It will intersect close to the middle
• Install all bases
• All tools must be accounted for and put back in the correct place in the shed. Do not randomly drop it in the shed.
• If you spilled chalk in the shed, please clean it up.
  

Post-Game clean up

• Remove bases and place plugs in the base anchors. Return base caddy to the shed.
• Hand drag infield skins as needed, do not push material up to the grass line. Return hand drag to the correct storage hook in the shed
• Rake or sweep all loose material from infield grass and outfield edge. Return the rake to the appropriate hook in the shed
• Repair/Re-Pack with clay divots in front of the pitching rubber, landing area, and batters box.
• Use wheelbarrows to place tarps on the pitching mound and home plate areas. Return wheelbarrows to the side of the shed, not inside.
• Clean and Dispose of trash in dugout
• Close up Bar-S if you are the last practice/game (see Bar S closing procedures)
  

Bar-S closing

• Home team is responsible for maintaining the field after the game. Follow the Post-Game closing checklist
• Two members of the Home team, including manager, coach or other designee shall verify:
  • ALL Snack Shack volunteers have left and the Snack Shack is secured. DO NOT LEAVE FIELD UNTIL VOLUNTEERS HAVE LEFT.
  • Garbage is taken to the dumpsters
  • All Shed Doors are closed and locked included the umpire equipment door
  • All container doors are closed and locked
  • Restrooms locked
  • Bollards installed and locked at both the North and South entrances
  • Keys properly returned to appropriate lockboxes
