New Snack Shack Coming Soon!

SNACK SHACK UPDATE (Feb 23, 2010)

After months of hard work and weaving our way through all of the standard procedures we have finally been granted permits to begin construction of our new Concession Stand and Storage Building.

It was our hope that we would receive all of our permits by the end of December 2009 which would have allowed us 3 months to complete the project in time for our 2010 Jamboree. 2 months later here we are, at a crossroad.

The construction of the new facilities will demand a large part of the property to be available for construction materials and equipment.

All of the construction areas will have to be fenced off for safety reasons which would greatly impact the ability to hold games and practices at Bar-S Playfield. Therefore it has been painfully decided to delay construction until the conclusion of the 2010 season.

Though this may seem like a blow to our dreams it is only a minor setback that is actually a blessing. By delaying the construction a few months it will give us added time to raise the additional funds needed to complete the project. In addition it will allow all of our volunteers and contractors time to build the project at a comfortable pace instead of a frantic one where more problems can arise, and most importantly, it will not create a possible hazardous situation for our children at the playfield.

This project has been ongoing for 50 years now and we are closer than ever. We appreciate all of the donations that have been so generously provided by our members to date. As a reminder we have several levels of giving starting at only $100.00. For this tax deductible donation you will have your name or name of your choice placed on the permanent Thank You plaque that will be placed on the new Building. All of the donation forms are located on our website for easy downloading.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to having another successful season of little league baseball and at the conclusion starting construction on what will be a new facility all of us will be proud of.

Sincerely,

Mark Terao

President

Snack Shack Information

Here is some basic information you will need concerning snack shack duty. When your team is assigned snack shack duty, this means that it is the responsibility of your team to provide at least 2 volunteers (3 on Saturdays) to work the snack shack. At least one volunteer must be an adult and the other must be at least 13 years old. Due to safety concerns, children under 13 will not be allowed in the snack shack. Volunteers could work the entire shift from opening to closing, or you could split the shift with other volunteers.

If you have never worked the snack shack, don’t worry, you’ll be trained on the spot!

What you should know:

1. The volunteers who are opening must arrive at the scheduled time (30 minutes prior to the start of the game). They will be completing opening duties which are posted in the snack shack (someone will help with this).

2. The volunteers who are closing will complete closing duties posted in the snack shack. They should plan on staying for 30-40 minutes after all games have ended to help with these duties. It is important that the volunteers stay until the shack is cleaned and locked up so that Mary Jo, Davi, or Lisa are not left alone to do this (safety concerns).

3. If a volunteer can not make it, they should find a replacement and let the team parent know of changes. Expect at any time your team is assigned that one of the parents may have to jump in and help if someone can’t make it.

4. It is important that on Saturdays, a team provides 3 volunteers because it is too busy for just two people.

5. Due to health code issues, it is also very important that the person handling the money in the snack shack does not touch food directly unless they wash their hands thoroughly after handling the money (getting beverages and wrapped candy is OK). It helps to have 1 person handle the cash register, 1 person handling the hotdogs, pretzels and Nachos, and 1 handling popcorn and beverages.
