50' 70' Little League Pilot Program will be offered to our 11-12 year olds.

West Seattle Little League will be participating in Little League's 50-70 Pilot Program in the upcoming 2011 season.

The 50-70 pilot program will incorporate using 50' mounds, 70' bases and will use standard Little League Junior level rules (i.e. runners leading off, stealing, dropped third strikes, etc.). This will not replace the normal 46' 60' Majors regular season games. It will be additional games added on to the normal season. The games will be played once a week most likely on a Sunday at one of the other District 7 leagues where the fields accommodate the 50' 70' distances.

Other than the normal Majors fee there will be no additional cost to the players that want to play in this 50' 70' pilot program.

This new program will allow 11 & 12 year old players (this program is for 11-12 year old major players only, unfortunately 10 year olds and younger cannot play in this pilot program) to experience playing on longer base paths and under baseball rules to better prepare them for the next level.

If this program becomes mandated by Little League International for the Majors division in the future, WSLL will have to consider converting the fields at Bar-S so that both 46' 50' and 50' 70' games can be played there.

On the registration form please check the appropriate box to let us know if your child is interested in participating in this new 50' 70' Pilot Program.

What Division do I register my player for?

  • T-Ball Ages 4 - 6

  • (AA) Coach Pitch Ages 6 - 8 (Must be at least 6 years of age to play in coach pitch. If player is 6 they must have played at least one season of Tee-Ball)

  • (AAA) Minors Ages 8 - 10 (7 and 8 year olds may qualify to play in WSLL Minors Division if you feel they are ready to move up and are drafted)

  • Majors Ages 10 - 12 (9 and 10 year olds may qualify to play in WSLL Majors Division if you feel they are ready to move up and are drafted)

  • Juniors Ages 13 - 14

  • * Seniors Ages 15 - 16 (team subject to player registration numbers)

  • * Big League Ages 16 - 18 (team subject to player registration numbers)

* Season Starts 2nd Week of May
(For league age purposes a player’s age is determined as of April 30). For example, if a player is born on May 1, 2000, that would make he/she league age 10 for the 2011 season. If their birthday was April 30, 2000- that would make he/she league age 11. Still not sure?  Here is a league age calculator.

YOUTH SPORT HEAD INJURY LAW NOW IN EFFECT!

If your child has participated in other sports this fall, you may have seen new policies related to concussion prevention. The new Zackery Lystedt Law (Washington State HB 1824) regarding Head Injury Policies in Youth Sports was enacted in 2009 to encourage greater awareness and safety for youth athletes. It requires certain notifications be given to athletes, parents and coaches. It also creates policies for how youth athletes should be treated when suspected of a head injury.

In compliance with these new regulations, WSLL requires that all players, parents, and coaches read the Concussion Information Sheet (links provided below) developed by the Center for Disease Control. It will help explain a few new safety regulations for the 2010 season. In addition, pages 3-4 of our registration packet includes a Parent and Athlete Concussion Information & Consent Form. This form is required for WSLL registration of players.
